Siegel Family Endowment:
Building Towards Systems Change

The Siegel Family Endowment: Building Towards Systems Change case study explores a strategy combining grantmaking, spotlighting grantees’ work, and growing a network of partners and grantees.

When David Siegel founded the Siegel Family Endowment (SFE) in 2011, he identified a need to better understand and shape the impact of technology on society. Siegel’s understanding of a future technology-driven economy grew out of his more than 35 years of experience developing computer-driven, model-based trading systems. He recognized a growing disconnect between the way individuals were being educated to enter the workforce and what he identified as the demands of the future economy and society. In 2014, SFE began its work in mission-informed grantmaking and outlined three core values: collaborative, relationship-driven, and risky and experimental. In order to better prepare individuals for success in a technology-driven economy, SFE chose three primary areas of focus: learning, workforce, and infrastructure.
